Confessions of A Starbucks Barista

Photo taken by Jordan Elms.

Before I started working at Starbucks, I was in there a lot, nearly every Sunday with my stepsister. I went in that much that during my interview, the manager recognised me. But even as a Starbucks regular, I never really knew what went on behind the scenes. We all interact with our baristas a lot, but not many people really know what it is like to be wearing that green apron. And to be honest, I never truly appreciated the people behind my daily latte until I had to work one of the famous 5:30am opening shifts. Or the numerous times that I have spelt names wrong on cups that customers were planning to Instagram. We have to rock the classic Starbucks uniform during every shift. We have to wear black trousers, black shoes, a black polo with the logo on it and a green apron. This can get really boring so I loved it when we got to wear the red aprons at Christmas time. I have been working at Starbucks for about 6 months now and I thought I would do a little post on some of things that happen behind the scenes and some little confessions you may not know about.

An Open Letter to My Friends and Family This Valentine's Day

So, today is Valentine's Day and I thought I would write a little post about sharing the love this Valentine's Day, even if you are single or have a significant other. I have never been in a relationship on Valentine's Day and honestly, it's been such a relief. I don't really like it and honestly, it's just a made up day that is over-commercialised for the stores to get more £££. However, I am not trying to rain on anyone else's day, so if you want to enjoy it with your loved ones or partner then please do, I will be celebrating mine with my Mumma.

Valentine's Day is mainly focused on people who are in relationships, however, the day is all about the people you love, so let's not just limit it to relationships. My family and friends have shown me a lot more love and support over the years than any man has done, so far anyway. So, this is a little post dedicated to my friends and family who have been my rock over the past few years.

Time To Talk - Mental Health

There are too many people who have mental health problems and are made to feel isolated, ashamed or even worthless. Time to Talk Day is a chance for all of us to be more open about our mental health and to talk, listen and change lives.

New Look Blush Perfume - A Coco Chanel Dupe!

I will be honest, I don't tend to look at the perfumes in high street stores like New Look or Next but I am honestly so happy that I did because I found this little gem. This is from New Look and it is called Blush. First of all let's look at what New Look have to say about this perfume...
'A delicately fresh, oriental fragrance with a heart of Jasmine and Rose. Combined with a blend of Patchouli and Vetiver to create a scent that embodies the ultimate expression of femininity. A light citrusy, sophisticated fragrance for a sexy captivating woman.'

The thing I love the most about this perfume is that smells exactly like the iconic Coco Chanel Mademoiselle (one of my favourite scents of all time). I love, love, love Mademoiselle as it was my nan's favourite perfume and every time I smelt it, it made me think of her but it is super pricey. With the New Look perfume being so similar, I decided to have a peak at the ingredients of both the fragrances and found that both Blush and Mademoiselle contain base and middle notes of Rose, Jasmine and Vetiver and also Patchouli so that would explain why they smell so similar, is that even legal haha? Another plus is that Blush, surprisingly is an Eau De Parfum, so it contains a higher concentration of perfume oils than an Eau de Toilette which gives it its staying power. I like to think that Blush is the little sister to Mademoiselle. The colour is a subtle pink/blush colour which again, is like the Mademoiselle one. I am partial to my high-end fragrances but this is definitely a perfume that I will be repurchasing over and over again. I am actually tempted to stock up on this just incase it gets discontinued. But, this is such a fab Chanel dupe without the huge price tag attached to it. I like to spray quite a bit of perfume so I do go through it quite quickly and that's where Blush comes in handy, it's so affordable and I won't have to limit how much I use! This is just £8.99 for a 50ml bottle and you can pick it up in store or online here. You can also pick this up in a 100ml bottle or a 10ml handbag sized bottle.

What is your signature scent?

What I Got For Christmas 2017

Hi! I hope you all had an amazing Christmas, I cannot believe that it is over already, it has gone so fast!! I always get sad when Christmas and New Year is over because it is one of my favourite times of the year. Christmas hauls and 'What I got for Christmas' posts are one of my favourite posts to read and watch around this time of year and I absolutely love reading everyones posts about what they received. It is a shame though that these posts need to have a disclaimer - I am in no way bragging about anything that I have received. I love sharing all of things that I got and I hope that it inspires other people if they might be stuck for gift ideas throughout the year. I haven't included every single thing that I got for Christmas and I would be here all day showing you all of the funny little gifts that I got that I love. I appreciate every single thing that I got. This is my first year doing this post as last year I was a little scared to do it as I was new to blogging and was not sure how it would go down. I also want to say that my parents are separated so I do get presents from both my mum and my dad and step family, so that is the reason why it seems like I get a lot! I thought I would also include who got me what as they all deserve credit for the amazing gifts.

My MAC Lipstick Collection 2017

I have to be honest, MAC lipsticks hold a little special place in my heart as they were the first 'proper' lipsticks that I owned, I felt like such a grown up when I bought my first MAC lipstick. I have noticed that recently the prices of these lipsticks have slowly started to creep up, however they're still in the middle of high street and high end prices. I also remember that people thought these lipsticks were the be-all and end-all of the lipstick word and I have to admit that unfortunately that isn't true, there are so many more affordable and sometimes even better lipsticks out there. However, there is something about MAC that always seems to draw me back in.

Sunshine Blogger Award

Hi lovelies! I was nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award, so todays post will be answering those questions. Thank you so much to Olivia Charlotte from for nominating me, if you haven't seen her post then check it out here. This award is for bloggers that are inspiring, creative and positive so I feel so lucky and thankful to have been nominated for this award, so lets get on to the questions.

The Rules:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and link their blog.
  • Answer the questions asked by the blogger who nominated them,
  • Nominate other blogs and give them new questions to answer.
  • Notify your nominees and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post.

Olivia's Questions:
1.Where do you get your positivity from?
I would have to say my mum, she has always been a positive person and taught me to always look for the positive in things.

        2. What is your favourite makeup item?
Has to be highlighter. I never used to like it before but once I found one that was perfect for my skin tone, I was in love!! I have so many highlighters it's bad lol!

       3. Who, out of everyone who’s ever lived, would you most like to have a chat with?
This is such a tough question, I had to spend a whole night thinking about it and honestly, I couldn't come up with an answer. There are many people I would like to have a chat with, especially Sigmund Freud as I study psychology and he is a popular psychologist. I would like to talk to him about how psychology has developed in the modern day and age.

      4. What is your favourite thing about blogging?
My favourite thing about blogging has to be all of the lovely fellow bloggers that I have met. The whole blogging community is fantastic and everyone is so supportive of each other.

      5. What is your favourite makeup look?
I would have to say something bronze/gold as that is always a winner with me. I always find that those colours suit me best and you can create the look all year round. However, I also love the autumn colours such as red, oranges and burgandy so that is a tough one.

      6. What would be your dream place to live?
I would love to live by the beach as I love the sound of the sea. I would also say a city as i'm a city girl at heart so a combination of the two would be good.

      7. Is there anything you don't like/want to improve about your blog?
Yes, there is. I started my blog only wanting to write about beauty but now I have enjoyed writing about lifestyle posts, such as university, trips and days outs. So I would like to try and write more of those posts so my blog isn't just beauty related.

      8. What's your opinion on glitter makeup?
I think glitter makeup is awesome, but it just isn't for me. I would just end up making a complete mess and ruining my makeup haha! But I love seeing pictures of people with glitter makeup and I have to admit that I do get jealous of their skills.

      9. Do you have a favourite YouTuber?
I like a lot of YouTubers. I watch YouTube religiously and I have to admit that I got most of my makeup skills from watching videos. I love Casey Holmes as she suffers from rosacea and has sensitive skin, so I love watching her videos because we have the same skin type and she loves reviewing drugstore makeup which makes it a little easier on my bank account haha!

      10. What can cheer you up after a bad day?
Definitely coming home, having a cup of tea and a chat with my mum. I also love getting into a bath and just relaxing and trying to forget about the rubbish day I had.

    My questions:
    1. What is your favourite thing about autumn/fall?

    5. Is there a food you could not live without?
    6. What gives you your inspiration for blog posts?
    7. What is one beauty product you cannot live without?
